Barquentine

Dyed and undyed Merino wool, undyed Blue Faced Leicester wool, recycled sari silk fibres, cotton nepps, undyed Eri silk fibres. Wet felted.

This is a wet felted portrait inspired by the character of Barquentine in the renown books of Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake. His dark strength and determination are set against the stony background of ancient Gormenghast itself. Textured details make his bright red clothes and his withered leg stand out against the darkness of his abstract features and the greyness of the background. His black clawed hand calls us toward Gormenghast, where the figure seems to be going to. The background is dominated by greys with a few black and brown accents, with a mainly horizontal layout with a few vertical shapes.

This small portrait  (around 42x35 cm in size, unmounted) will stand out and define a small space.
